²Ø¾«¸ó’s religion department encourages students to study off campus and abroad to gain perspective on differences in global cultures and perspectives on religion.

St. Andrews Study Group

All ²Ø¾«¸ó study groups are led by a ²Ø¾«¸ó faculty member, and the study group to St. Andrews Scotland is frequently headed by a member of the religion department's faculty. Scotland and the United Kingdom are an ideal place for students to enrich their study of religion, as they have an extremely rich religious history. Students almost can't help but encounter this history in impactful ways in the course of their study abroad.

It is almost impossible to overstate the value of being surrounded by the markers of this history as my students and I read and talked about religious conflict, human rights, and modern secular political projects.

RELG/ JWST 228 Jerusalem: City of Gods is an introduction to the Abrahamic faiths—Judaism, Christianity, and Islam—that uses Jerusalem as its centering theme. As an extended study, the course explores the city’s sacred geography in person, seeing how religion has been lived there.

Extended Studies

Studying off campus doesn’t have to be a full-semester affair. Some courses at ²Ø¾«¸ó are designated as extended studies. For two to three weeks following the conclusion of the regular semester, students and faculty in these courses travel to apply their classroom learning in the field.

Approved Programs

The possibilities for off-campus study are nearly endless through ²Ø¾«¸ó’s approved programs. The University has vetted many non-²Ø¾«¸ó off-campus study programs in locations all over the globe. Their affiliation makes the coordination of transfer credit seamless, and opens up a world of possibilities to ²Ø¾«¸ó students.

St. Andrews

The University of St Andrews’ religion curriculum is housed within its Divinity School, affording ²Ø¾«¸ó students the opportunity to learn about religion from within an academic context unlike anything at ²Ø¾«¸ó.

Excursions

While studying off campus, students typically have many opportunities to visit important cultural and historic sites.
