ؾ alumni are forging their own paths in careers around the world. The entertainment industry is one of them.

To help connect current students with recent alumni in the entertainment industry, Career Services held a virtual panel of members from NYC’s Junior Hollywood, Radio, and Television Society (JHRTS) on November 8, 2018. “That’s Show Biz” featured five young professionals from various agencies, production companies, and networks, including alumnae Lizzie Marino ’16 from CNN and Emma Gladstone ’17 from Wheelhouse, who discussed their experiences and advised students on the best practices for success in the field. The panel also featured Adam Goldberg from CollegeHumor, Jacob Coffin from Big Fish Entertainment, and Frankie Chiapperino from Seven Bucks Entertainment.

Student emcee Katherine Maloney ’21 led the conversation with questions about an average day in their profession, the benefits of obtaining a graduate degree for entertainment careers, and the flexibility of a liberal arts degree.

“What you learn at ؾ is invaluable,” said Marino. “Having all those resources like the state-of-the-art equipment in the library at ؾ is incredible.”

Gladstone, who majored in psychology and now works as an executive assistant, revealed that she quickly learned the value of a liberal arts degree.

“In this industry, you have to be social and be smart,” said Gladstone. “The skills you learn at ؾ come out [in the job], and people around you appreciate it.”

Maloney, who hopes to pursue a career in entertainment, was excited to moderate the panel and gain valuable insight on the ways to work from the bottom up.

“All the panelists discussed how important it is to work extremely hard from the start,” said Maloney. “Even though this mentality was emphasized strongly, all the panelists sincerely loved their jobs. I’m looking forward to having this excitement in my career.”

Throughout the semester, students can continue to explore post-graduate options through one-on-one meetings with Career Services advisors, the shadowing program,  with graduate school and employer representatives, and
