Campus Phone System Upgrade: Explore New Features and Opt-In for a Physical Phone

Back to ITS Updates

In the next few months, ITS will replace the campus phone system with a new service that offers both computer and mobile capabilities for communications. This service will be connected to your computer and/or cell phone and will not require a physical desk phone.

ITS is not removing the physical phones in classrooms/labs or at front desk service points (e.g., the HR front desk, the admissions lobby, the ITS service desk, and the library circulation desk).

If you prefer to have a physical desk phone or your job requires one, please by Friday, May 9.

Please note: If you do not opt-in to receive a physical phone, your current physical phone will be replaced with the new phone system desktop and mobile client. However, if you do not opt-in and later realize you need a physical phone, you can still request one from ITS.

ITS staff members are available to show you the new phone system and to answer any questions. Meet on the fifth floor of Case Library (at the desk at the top of the staircase) on the following dates:

  • Thursday, April 17: 1:30–2:30 p.m.
  • Friday, April 18: 9–10 a.m.
  • Wednesday, April 23: 9:30–11 a.m.

The new phone system will include the following features:

  • Call history and management
    • Send text message, copy number, create a contact, add to existing contact, and block number
  • Voicemail management
    • Same features as for calls, additionally:
      • Mark as unread
      • Mark as follow up
      • Open the file
      • Download the message file
  • Multi-phone line capability
  • Send and receive SMS (short message service) text messages
  • Robust Caller ID selection
  • Seamless switch from a phone call to a virtual meeting
  • No need to dial 9 before calling outside phone numbers
  • Mobile client has a push-to-talk feature
